Top Flat Quay House

Background and Brief

This 145 m2 space has become a three bedroom flat with a mezzanine. It was designed with a west facing glazed screen to the street with folding back doors to the terrace and great views toward London. The scheme was designed, project managed and built by Quay 2c.

Scheme

The stair to the mezzanine had to be within 3m of the fire lobby to the entrance to allow maximum openness but conform to fire regulations. The stair thus forms a tight series of welcoming spaces on entry that gradually open up and reveal the double height space and ‘silver wave’ roof above. A kitchen and bathroom are located under the mezzanine with borrowed light through glass blocks. The front room looks onto the street and terrace while the rest of the lower space is left open plan.  The mezzanine floor has a bedroom with en-suite bathroom where you can luxuriate in the bath and look over at Crystal Palace in the distance. Materials and finishes try to retain a coastline theme with ice-cream parlour colours and exposed, weathered looking materials giving an informal feel.
