Barbara Dougan’s practice explores concepts of resistance, transformation and adaptation, articulated through film, drawn animation, print and drawings.
Over the last year she has been making work in response to the economic and political situation and the widening gap between those who have an innate sense of entitlement and those who appear to have no rights. The work is personally cathartic and seeks to express the frustrations and impotence of people who are cowed or disregarded by the political process and public policy due to accidents of birth, location, health or education.
The Unentitled series records dated actions defined by confinement, in a perpetual cycle of futile effort to break out of circumstances that inhibit or prevent social or economic mobility.
