Stuart Mayes is an artist living and working in London. His work consists of sculptures and installations that at first appear abstract and conceptual however they are often concerned with cultural and personal stories. Stuart’s practice combines found and second-hand object with traditional craft and ‘hobby art’ techniques. He has exhibited and taken part in artists’ projects in London and the United Kingdom as well as in Norway, Venice and New Zealand.
Go-Go is a new work created especially for the M2 Gallery. The piece operates on continuous 24 hour cycles, as day follows night solar panels charge the batteries that illuminate disco balls that start to turn when the sun sets. The morning after the night before the balls hang still, the batteries re-charging for the next evening’s activity.
Stuart is currently the International Residency Artist at the wip:sthlm studios and gallery in Stockholm, Sweden.
