Artpoint Offices
Background and Brief
Artpoint Trust is a Public Arts Commissioning Agency who lease first floor offices in the centre of Oxford. They have three rooms totaling 65m2. They approached us when they were increasing their staff from 4 to 6 people. They wanted to expand without having to move from a good location near to the Museum of Modern Art. Their budget was tight and they were using rather heavy office furniture and storage they’d inherited. These desks were rather ‘object’ like with a lot of space around them.
Scheme
Our proposal was simply to create some purpose made desk space and shelving that actually fitted the space they had. This is wrapped round the walls so that most staff get a view out of the windows. In facing away from the door there would be less distractions. A continuous bench type arrangement has led to better communication as everybody is a party to the landscape of desk space; seats can be rolled up for informal meetings. Materials used are varnished birch ply, paint, new lighting and galvanised steel uprights that allow the shelves to be easily dismantled and moved.
