Ken Taylor

Ken graduated from the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow after gaining his undergraduate degree at the Polytechnic of Central London. He has worked as a freelance architect in Scotland and London, including Rock Townsend / Ralph Erskine on the “Ark” Office Building in Hammersmith, London, and for London Underground, working as a site architect on the Will Alsop designed North Greenwich Station. In 1998 he bought the ex milk depot at 2c Kings Grove Peckham with sculptor Julia Manheim. They have since turned this into a live /work studio and home adding three flats to the front of the building. At the beginning of the new millennium Quay 2c was formed as a vehicle for multi disciplinary projects. Ken has taught and lectured extensively in the USA, India, Europe and had a part time lectureship at the Oxford School of Architecture for many years. He has recently been a one day a week design tutor at both Brighton and Canterbury Schools of Architecture, a trustee and chair of Artpoint Trust, a Public Arts Commissioning Agency in Oxford and is currently chair of m2gallery on the front of Quay House in Peckham. He also serves on LB of Newham & LB Southwark’s Design Review Panels.

Julia Manheim

Artist, Diploma in Art and Design

 

Director of Quay 2c

 

Julia graduated in Jewellery Design from Central School of Art, London. Since then, she has run her own studio, at first making experimental jewellery and more recently, sculpture and installation art. Her work has been exhibited widely and is included in many collections. Since 1994, she has worked as lead artist on several public art projects including: Cradley Heath bus/rail interchange, Wolverton Walk and Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead, which gained her an R.S.A. Art & Architecture Award. Julia also won a McNaughton Review 2000 design award for ‘Secret River’ an artist’s book. Currently, she is Lead Artist for Crawley P.F.I. schools and is an integral part of the Quay 2c design team. She teaches part time at Middlesex University in the Applied Design faculty.

Dominic Hailey

Associate

 

Dominic joined Quay2c in March 2012 as an associate, bringing his long experience in affordable housing work and construction detailing to the office.  He graduated from the architecture programme at The University of Bath in 2000 and subsequently joined the City Design & Social Science masters course at the London School of Economics where he developed his skills as an urban designer and helped develop the briefing material for the ‘Designs on Democracy’ initiative with the Institute for Public Policy Research and The Design Council.  Since 2002 he has worked in a number of architectural practices on commercial and residential projects, most recently completing several affordable housign developments ranging in value from £300,000 to £8m.

 

Dominic’s focus is on developing and maintaining excellent collaborative relationships with clients, the design team, and contractors to ensure the smooth paasage of design from conception through to completion.


Iain S. Hales

Office Manager

 

Iain graduated in 2009 from the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL and came to work for the company in the autumn of 2010.  Since completing his MFA Iain has undertaken the Emerging Artist Residency at Covepark in Scotland and taken part in a number of exhibitions, including the inaugural exhibition of Cole Contemporary.

Simon Pepper

BA (Hons) Arch

 

Architectural Designer

 

Simon studied at Canterbury College of Art initially pursuing a fine art path before graduating from South Bank University in 1995 with a degree in Architecture. Between 1995 and 2005 Simon established a design and construction company working closely with Architects on own build projects. Most recently he worked
as Project Architect on the award winning Kielder Observatory in Northumberland and Vittoria Primary School extension and refurbishment in London.

Through his career Simon has gained valuable professional experience in construction, design, project management and contract administration having been involved in a wide variety of projects.

Simon joined Quay2C on a freelance basis in March 2012.

Catrina Stewart

BSc. Hons Arch, MArch part 2.

 

Architectural Designer

 

Catrina graduated with Distinction in her Part II Diploma from the Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL. Since, she has been working at Quay2c while also teaching at the Bartlett and taking part in review panels in other Universities across London. She has exhibited her work in a number of exhibitions in London, Edinburgh and Sheffield. She was commissioned to design the front cover of the August 2011 issue of the Architectural Review magazine and has had her work published within the magazine as well as other architecture related websites, such as Dezeen and BLDGBLOG.

Siraaj Mitha

BSc. Hons Arch.

 

Architectural Assistant

 

Siraaj graduated from Kingston University in 2011 after completing his part 1 and came to Quay 2c in February 2012.

 

Since graduating he has been shortlisted for an open competition held by the Glasgow Institute of Architects, and has worked for Studio Egret West.
